Bridge Type- Short Span Vehicle Bridge (SSVB)
Dimensions- 9m x 6m
Client- BCM Construction
Location- Newport, South Wales
BCM Construction originally had a requirement for supply and installation of a hire bridge to be used at Imperial Park Substation in Newport, South Wales. The 350-acre site situated on the western edge of Newport was being developed and a new substation being built. The bridge had to be suitable to take a 130-tonne crane and other construction/heavy haulage vehicles. Halfway through the hire term, our client was so happy with this product that they decided to make it permanent and went ahead with a purchase.
The bridge supplied was a 9m x 6m short span vehicle bridge. It was delivered to site in two sections, (two number units 9m x 3m) each section weighing 6 tonnes, total self-weight was 12 tonnes. The deck was durbar and the paint finish a C3 Medium System. The foundations, supplied by the client, were sunk into the bank to allow the bridge to sit flush with the existing roadway. The size of the bearing plates matched the ends of the bridge in size. Positioned at each end of the bridge sections, the plates were fixed using Hilti Hit-V rods with HY200.
The short span vehicle bridge is an all-round practical vehicle bridge solution for spans up to 9m. It can be easily adapted to take parapets of your choice, vehicle kerb, simple post and rail in timber or steel finish. It is easily transported on a standard artic and installation is completed in just 2-lifts. Thus reducing time on site and man hours which has a positive effect on Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental elements of any project.
